Will She Remember?

We laid on the floor together watching Moana for the 50th time. She was very into the movie, but I wasn’t. I was too busy staring at her. Staring at her big cheeks and cute little nose.

While watching her, I wondered, will she remember this? This moment? Will she remember that we cuddled while watching her favorite movie?

And then I got to thinking even more,

Will she remember this year at all?

Will she remember her 2nd birthday party that I tried so hard to make perfect? All the fun she had with her cousins and family?

Will she remember the car being one of her favorite spots? Her number one place to take a nap?

Will she remember the pantry that I turned into her little playroom so she can have her own space? A place where she can make it a mess as much as she wants without Mommy obsessing over every little crumb (ugh)?

Will she remember spending every Wednesday night with her Grandma while Mom and Dad went out without her? And all the fun she shared with Grandma?

Will she remember when Mommy raised her voice because she wasn’t behaving? Or when Mommy put her in time out because she kept hitting her brother?

I’m just not sure if she will. I can’t remember much from my early childhood, so why would she?

I don’t remember the first house I lived in, but I want her to remember her first home and living in a new state that none of us were used to. It’s an important piece of memory in her life.

But if it’s the year 2040, and she doesn’t remember being 2, then I hope her 23-year-old self is ready to listen to her 41-year-old (omg what) Mother tell her all about it.

I’m excited about that day.

Of course, I want it to take forever to get here, but when it does, I’m ready to explain to my daughter how much I loved her (still do/will) and everything she mean(s) to me at this time.
